Jeep Compass Now More Affordable, Black Shark And Meridian Overland Launched

Jeep has launched two new special editions of the Compass and Meridian SUVs in India. The Compass Black Shark edition and Meridian Overland edition get cosmetic enhancements over the standard models, but no new features.

The Compass Black Shark edition gets blacked-out details, Black Shark badges, and new grille inserts. The Meridian Overland edition gets a new grille with chrome surround, body-coloured side skirts, and suede finish on the dashboard and seats.

Both the Compass Black Shark edition and Meridian Overland edition are powered by the same 170PS, 2-litre diesel engine and are available in 4x2 and 4x4 options.

Jeep has also launched new 4x2 diesel automatic variants of the Compass, which are exclusive to India. The Compass MT now starts at Rs 20.49 lakh, while its automatic variants are now priced from Rs 23.99 lakh, making it more affordable by up to Rs 6 lakh.

The Jeep Compass Black Shark edition gets a gloss-black treatment to some of its elements, including the Jeep logo, Compass moniker on the doors, ORVM housings, and alloy wheels.

It also gets Black Shark emblems on the front fenders and a differently styled grille with fresh black inserts. The new grille and alloys will also be available in the standard MY2024 Compass.

The Jeep Compass Black Shark edition has an all-black interior with red accents on the dashboard, steering wheel, and seat upholstery.
The Jeep Meridian Overland edition gets copper highlights across the cabin, a suede finish for the seats and dashboard and copper-backed seat leather perforation.

There are no new features, but the standard equipment list includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen system, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, up to six airbags and a 360-degree camera.

The Jeep Compass Black Shark has no direct rivals, but the Meridian Overland could be considered an alternative to the MG Gloster's Black Storm edition.

The Compass competes with the Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross and Volkswagen Tiguan, while the Meridian competes with the MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.
