Flipkart, a big online shopping site in India, had a lot of people visit during its special sale called "The Big Billion Days" in 2023. The sale started on October 8 and ended on October 15, and got a huge number of 1.4 billion customer visits for the sales event. Some special customers got to start shopping early on October 7.
The CEO of Flipkart Group, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, was happy with the huge response they got from customers and sellers for the sales event. Many people wanted to buy premium things during this sale, like smartphones, laptops, tablets, home appliances, televisions, audio devices, and grooming products.
One remarkable aspect was the extensive reach of deliveries, reaching remote areas like Andaman, Hayuliang (Arunachal Pradesh), Choglamsar (Ladakh), Kutch (Gujarat), and Longewala (Rajasthan). Flipkart's kirana partners delivered an impressive 4 million packages within the first four days of TBBD 2023.
During the event, more sellers became very successful, with double the number of crorepati sellers compared to last year's event. Flipkart's Samarth program was a key factor. It helped weavers and artisans display over 350,000 products related to home, furnishing, and lifestyle in a special section called 'Indian Roots Store Front'. Sellers in the Samarth program saw a huge increase in growth, six times more than before the festival started.
To make products and services more accessible, Flipkart introduced a range of affordability options, enticing millions of shoppers. The Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card witnessed an 8X growth in overall spends and 4X growth in orders placed, thanks to offers on instant savings and unlimited cashback. Flipkart Pay Later and EMI spends also saw significant increases.
Innovative on-app experiences like Flippi (a Chat GPT-powered shopping assistant), Vibes (a video-led browsing experience), and SPOYL (Gen Z Fashion experience) gained substantial traction during TBBD 2023, experiencing a 4X increase in engagement compared to the pre-festive period. Flipverse (a 3D-rendered, immersive Virtual World with multiple brand spaces) saw a 10X increase in visits.
A lot of people in smaller towns and cities watched Flipkart's videos where they showcase products for sale. They watched a total of 8 lakh hours, which is a huge amount. This made them buy things 16 times more than before this sale event started.
Also, many more people signed up for Flipkart Plus, their special membership. Compared to last year's sale event, 60% more people joined Flipkart Plus this time. It shows that more and more people enjoying and using Flipkart's services. Additionally, insights from Cleartrip revealed the festive season's travel trends, showing that Indians made air bookings to international destinations like Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Colombo, and Phuket. Domestically, Goa, Kochi, and Jaipur were top choices.
Also, more people bought medicines from Flipkart, and it was a big increase, about 2.5 times more shoppers. Many of these shoppers, over 62%, were from smaller cities and places beyond. The medicines that were liked a lot were multivitamins and Ayush products.
Overall, Flipkart's TBBD 2023 has been a monumental success, showcasing the platform's growing influence and its ability to cater to diverse customer demands and preferences.
