At least 17 people were killed and many others injured after a passenger train collided with a goods train in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh. The accident happened on October 23, 2023, when a passenger train collided with a freight train at Bhairab, about 80 kilometers from capital Dhaka.
Train services to other parts of Bangladesh have been suspended following a train collision in Kishoreganj. Sadiqur Rahman, a government administrator in Bhairab, Bangladesh, told AFP that 15 bodies have been recovered from the site of a train collision and that many people are injured.
The number of casualties in the Bangladesh train collision could increase, according to Mosharraf Hossain, an official at the Bhairab Fire Station. Fire service officials on the scene of the Bangladesh train collision said that three passenger carriages were overturned and that many people are feared to be trapped.
Initial reports suggest that the freight train crashed into the Egaro Sindur from behind, striking two of the carriages, said Anowar Hossain, superintendent of Dhaka Railway Police, according to the bdnews24 news portal. Nazmul Islam, acting general manager (east) of Bangladesh Railway, said that the freight train had disregarded a signal and collided with the last three carriages of the passenger train.
Bangladesh Railway Director General Quamrul Ahsan said that the locomaster, assistant locomaster, and guard of the freight train involved in the collision have been suspended following the preliminary investigation.
