In a world where timeliness is essential, Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has proudly claimed the title of the "world's most punctual airport." The aviation analytics firm Cirium published its 'On-Time Performance Monthly Report,' and KIA has clinched this impressive recognition for the third month in a row.
The people behind the airport, known as BIAL (Bengaluru International Airport Limited), were thrilled to share this accomplishment. KIA has consistently provided passengers with a reliable on-time departure experience. Over the past three months, they've maintained a stellar punctuality record with scores of 87.51% in July, 89.66% in August, and 88.51% in September.
Cirium determines on-time performance (OTP) by keeping a close eye on when an aircraft arrives at the gate, making sure it's no more than 15 minutes behind schedule. They meticulously evaluated about 89.03% of all flights from KIA, which is a total of 18,913 flights.
While KIA excels in timely departures, it achieved a 79.46% score for on-time arrivals, which was the lowest among the top five airports on the list. The only other Indian airport among the global top five is Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Cirium is thorough in its assessment, looking at data from about 3 million flights at airports all over the world every month. This process helps them accurately rank each airport's performance.
In addition to these remarkable achievements, Kempegowda International Airport recently expanded its services. Now, from Terminal 2, it offers international flights. This expansion further solidifies KIA's reputation as a global leader in punctuality and reliability for air travel.
