Delhi Weather Records Highest Single-Day Rainfall in 20 Years; Waterlogged Roads Persist

Delhi saw the highest rainfall in a day in July since 2003 as several areas of the national capital remain water-logged on Saturday. With Delhi getting 126.1 mm rainfall between 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall in the coming few days. With rains returned a perennial problem — waterlogging, with many areas like Connaught Place, parts of North Delhi, Minto Bridge, Majnu ka Tila, Lutyens, among other areas experiencing flooding.

IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for the city. Moderate rainfall, thundershowers and strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph were on the IMD forecast for Delhi on Saturday morning, along with heavy rain in isolated places. Light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers are set to continue on Sunday as well with the weather department issuing a ‘yellow’ alert. While rainfall remains on the forecast till July 14, the intensity is likely to reduce.
