On Wednesday, the Kerala state lottery department announced that ticket number TE 230662 from Kozhikode has won the ₹25 crore first prize for the Onam Thiruvonam Bumper BR-93.
The Kerala lottery result was announced after a lucky draw at Gorky Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, under the supervision of independent judges. The Kerala State Lotteries, established in 1967, are operated by the Government of Kerala.
The ₹25 crore prize is the largest jackpot ever awarded in the Kerala lottery. The winner is expected to receive around ₹17.5 crore after paying a 30% income tax deduction.
Twenty people will win the second prize of ₹1 crore and another 20 will win the third prize of ₹50 lakh. Ten people will win the fourth prize of ₹5 lakh.
Last year, the second prize was ₹5 crore, the third prize was ₹50 lakh each for 20 people and the fourth was ₹5 lakh each for 10 people. This year, record numbers of Thiruvonam Bumper tickets have been sold, with over 70 lakh tickets sold by Wednesday morning, the last day to buy tickets.
A total of 397,911 winners received Onam bumper prizes last year, including a variety of awards.
