Rajya Sabha Passes Delhi Services Bill: Step Towards Transparent Governance

Rajya Sabha has given its approval to the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Services Bill. 131 Members of Parliament backed the bill. On the other side, 102 MPs cast their votes against the bill, and proposal to refer it to a special committee was also turned down.

This step comes after Lok Sabha recently approved bill. The core purpose of bill is to ensure a balanced & equitable administration for National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Interesting thing is that, even MPs from various political parties lent their support to bill. Deputy Chairman Harivansh, who oversaw the voting, also took steps to verify the claims of some MPs who asserted that their names were included in the committee without their consent.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, passionately discussed the bill's merits. He articulated that bill's main purpose is to establish a corruption free and people centric governance system in Delhi. Shah emphasized that the bill doesn't substantially alter the previous version brought forth by the Congress party. Furthermore, he stressed unique nature of Delhi as a Union Territory and its distinct governance requirements under the Constitution.

Remarkably, the bill gained support from the NDA (National Democratic Alliance), BJD (Biju Janata Dal), and YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) factions. This unity for the bill to pass shows that everyone believes it can make Delhi's administration better.

Even there are some people having doubts about bill. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a prominent member of the Congress party, expressed reservations about its constitutionality. Singhvi expressed worry that the bill might go against how we usually do things in a democracy and weaken the importance of local goals in Delhi.

The move signifies a dedicated push to enhance operations, increase transparency, and engage Delhi people more effectively.
