Meta is planning to charge €10 per month for ad-free access to Facebook and Instagram on desktop devices. Additional linked accounts will cost €6 per month.
Meta plans to charge €10 per month for desktop use of a Facebook or Instagram account, and €6 for additional linked accounts, according to a Reuters report citing a WSJ report.
Meta plans to charge €13 per month for the ad-free versions of Instagram and Facebook on mobile devices, due to platform fees levied by the Apple Store and Google App Store.
Earlier this year, Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner fined Meta €390 million and said the company could not use the contract legal basis to send users ads based on their online activity.
Meta said it would ask users in the European Union for their consent before allowing businesses to send them targeted ads. The company said it would do so to comply with evolving regulatory requirements in the EU.
Meta has informed European regulators that it plans to roll out its ad-free subscription plan, called Subscription No Ads (SNA), in the coming months.
