Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Luis Rubiales has announced his resignation, effective Friday after FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against him over an alleged unsolicited kiss on the mouth of player Jenni Hermoso.

Rubiales has been under fire after presenting Hermoso with a medal while handing the team their medals after they beat England 1-0 in the final in Sydney on Sunday.

The entire Spanish women's national team that won the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, as well as several other players, have announced that they will not play international matches while Luis Rubiales remains president of the RFEF.

FIFA's disciplinary committee has also ordered Luis Rubiales, as well as any RFEF officials or employees, to refrain from contacting or attempting to contact Jenni Hermoso or anyone associated with her.

The chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has informed Luis Rubiales, the RFEF, and UEFA of the decision that has been made. Luis Rubiales has said that he will defend himself legally against the allegations of sexual misconduct.
