The Nun 2 Scares Up $32.6 Million in North America Despite Poor Reviews

Despite poor reviews, The Nun 2 box office in its opening weekend in North America, grossing an estimated $32.6 million. The sequel to the 2018 hit was released in 3,728 theatres by Warner Bros.

Despite receiving a one-star review from AP's Mark Kennedy, who called it "a movie that seems destined to pound a nail into this franchise's undead coffin," and a C Cinemas core from audiences, The Nun 2 still topped the box office in its opening weekend in North America, grossing an estimated $32.6 million.

This is not surprising, as horror films are often critic-proof when it comes to opening weekend. The Nun 2, directed by Michael Graves and starring Taissa Farmiga and Storm Reid, fell far short of the debut of the first film ($53.8 million).

The Nun 2 also performed well internationally, grossing $52.7 million from 69 markets. Mexico was the strongest market, with $8.9 million. In its second weekend, The Nun 2 bumped Denzel Washington's Equalizer 3 to second place at the box office.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 took third place at the box office, another new release. The film has been a commercial success earning $369 million. Released by Focus Features in 3,650 theatres, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 earned $10 million.

Nia Vardalos wrote, directed, and starred in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, which brings back John Corbett and takes the gang to Greece. Shah Rukh Khan's latest film, Jawan took 4th place at the box office with $6.2 million from only 813 locations.

Barbie dropped to fifth place after eight successful weeks in theatres, grossing $5.9 million from 3,281 locations. The Warner Bros. film has now made $620.5 million domestically.
