Aamir's last release, Laal Singh Chadha, was a box-office disappointment but was well-received on Netflix. The film, which co-starred Kareena Kapoor, was a Hindi adaptation of the hit Hollywood film Forrest Gump.

Sunny Deol is riding high on the success of his latest release, Gadar 2, which grossed over ₹525 crore at the Indian box office and briefly became the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, before being overtaken by Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan.

Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan have never collaborated on a film, but they have clashed at the box office several times in the past. Their first clash was in 1990 when their films Dil and Ghayal were released on the same day.

In 1996, their films Raja Hindustani and Ghatak clashed, and in 2001, their films Lagaan and Gadar clashed. The Lagaan-Gadar clash is considered to be one of the most epic box-office clashes in Indian cinema history.
