IPL 2023 Match 19: SRH Vs KKR Key Highlights

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won their second consecutive match in the TATA IPL 2023 as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 23 runs in match 19 of the tournament held at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 14th April 2023. Harry Brook played a magnificent inning of 100 not out from 57 balls to guide SRH to an imposing total of 228 for 4. In reply, KKR had a daunting task ahead of them, chasing 229. They lost their opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the third ball of the innings, and the Impact Player of the match, Venkatesh Iyer, couldn't do much as he was dismissed by Marco Jansen after scoring just 7 runs. Nitish Rana fought hard and scored a blistering 75 from 41 balls, along with Rinku Singh who remained unbeaten on 58 off 31 balls, but it wasn't enough to take KKR over the line as they ended their innings on 205 for 5.

SRH won the toss and elected to bat first. Brook and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings for SRH, and Brook started off with a flurry of fours in the first over bowled by Umesh Yadav. Brook scored his maiden IPL century, an unbeaten 100 from 57 balls, including 13 fours and 2 sixes. Aiden Markram scored a quick-fire 50 off just 26 balls, and Abhishek Sharma chipped in with 32 off 17 balls to help SRH post a daunting total of 228 for 4.

KKR's chase got off to a disastrous start as they lost Gurbaz in the third ball of the innings. They introduced Venkatesh Iyer as their Impact Player at No.3, but he couldn't make much of an impact as he was dismissed by Jansen after scoring just 7 runs. Sunil Narine, who came in next, was also dismissed by Jansen for a duck. KKR was struggling at 26 for 3 at that stage. However, Rana & Jagadeesan added 63 runs for the fourth wicket, with Rana scoring a brilliant half-century from just 25 balls. But Markande got rid of Jagadeesan for 36 and then dismissed Andre Russell for just 3 runs. Rana continued to fight hard, but he eventually fell to T Natarajan after scoring 75 runs from 41 balls.

Rinku Singh tried his best to take KKR over the line, but he ran out of partners and was standing 58 not out from 31 balls. SRH's bowling was led by Jansen & Markande, who both picked up two wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar & T Natarajan picked up one wicket each.

Overall, it was a great game of cricket, with some brilliant performances from both sides. SRH will be delighted with their second consecutive win, while KKR will be disappointed that they couldn't chase down the total despite the heroics from Rana & Rinku.
