Mumbai Indians VS Royal Challengers Banglore: Fight For The IPL 2023 Playoffs Begin

Match 54 of the TATA IPL 2023 season featured Mumbai Indians (MI) against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI won the toss and opted to bowl first. Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat opened the innings for RCB, but Rawat departed quickly as Jason Behrendorff got him caught by Cameron Green. Du Plessis, who was dropped by Nehal Wadhera on the fourth ball of the innings, went on to score a magnificent 65 off 41 balls. He and Glenn Maxwell, who scored 68 off just 33 balls, added a brilliant 143-run partnership to take RCB to a competitive total of 199/6.

Chasing 200, MI got off to a flying start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan attacking the RCB bowlers early on. Kishan hit two consecutive sixes off Siraj, and then a four and a six off Hasaranga before being caught behind off the same bowler. Rohit Sharma was then trapped LBW via a successful review. Suryakumar Yadav and Wadhera then mixed caution with aggression and took the score to 99/2 at the halfway mark.
After reaching the halfway mark, Yadav and Wadhera shifted into fifth gear, hitting Hasaranga and Harshal Patel for sixes.

Yadav brought up his fifty off just 25 balls with a four and a straight six off Siraj. He then went berserk, smashing two sixes off Hasaranga and two sixes and a four off Vijaykumar Vyshak. However, the RCB pacer bounced back to have Yadav caught at deep square leg and then sent back David off the next ball. Wadhera then finished the match in style by hitting a six over cover off Green, and MI won the match by six wickets with 21 balls to spare. Wadhera remained unbeaten on 52 off 34 balls.

Jason Behrendorff was the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai Indians with figures of 3/36 in his four overs. However, the star of the match was undoubtedly Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed seven fours and six sixes on his way to 83 off just 35 balls. With this win, MI moved up to third place on the IPL 2023 points table, while RCB slipped to seventh place.
