WhatsApp, the most popular messaging platform in India with over 500 million users, received a record 14,767 complaint reports in August.
Of these, 71 accounts were "actioned" by WhatsApp, meaning that remedial action was taken, such as banning the account or restoring a previously banned account.
WhatsApp received only one order from the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) in India in August and complied with it.
The GAC is a new organization launched by the Indian government to empower social media users and address their concerns regarding content and other issues.
